MGKF’s Jonathan Spergel Panelist for “Environmental Sustainability: Planning for Smart Growth” at the 2018 Pennsylvania Brownfields Conference
Manko, Gold, Katcher & Fox Managing Partner Jonathan Spergel was a panelist for “Environmental Sustainability: Planning for Smart Growth,” at the 2018 Pennsylvania Brownfields Conference in the Lehigh Valley, October 2-4.
The presentation took place on the afternoon of October 2 and covered the benefits and hidden challenges of transforming one of Philadelphia’s largest suburban brownfields—an abandoned industrial manufacturing property—into a luxurious, multi-family apartment complex with direct access to a network of walking trails. A restored and retrofitted historic rail bridge also provides pedestrian access to dining and shopping. Attendees learned about how Pennsylvania’s Land Recycling Program, as well as a local zoning ordinance specifically drafted to stimulate redevelopment, helped pave the way for the project and further sustainable revitalization.
